In December 2004 I sat in with Flap Jones
as she did her show "Not Necessarily Nashville" on a Friday
night. It was my first time in the current KABF building on Main Street
and was a blast. She had sent me an email after stumbling onto my web
site and, in our exchange of notes, very graciously invited me to join
her during a visit over the holidays. It was great sitting across from
her, talking on the air and playing some great music. Back in the early
1990's I used to sometimes fill in hosting her show and these days her
brand of what's sometimes called alternative country has grown to be my
favorite kind of new music. |

In August 2006 I met Jim and Shelli Russell
for lunch. It was my first time seeing them in a decade. Jim was among
three people who used to join me regularly on the air during the early
days of my program, starting in 1989. I met Shelli Poole in 1993 when
she had moved back to Little Rock from Los Angeles and we were good friends
during that period. At the time she hosted a show on KABF that aired before
mine. I didn't realize until they told me recently that they actually
met at my show when Jim came up to join me on the air and met Shelli who
was wrapping up her show. Today they're married and have a family. |

The former program director of KABF,
Doug Clifford, along with his girlfriend Barbara along the Sante Fe river
near Gainesville, Florida in August 2006. These days Doug works as a news
anchor and Sunday morning talk show host on WSKY-FM 97.3, a talk station
in Gainesville. I typically see Doug a few times a year when I'm driving
through the area and joined him on his show back in 2000 shortly after
the Elian Gonzalez raid, which I covered in Miami. |
