Hibblen Radio

While it could sometimes be a cold place, KJBR really was like a family, especially compared to what corporate radio stations are like these days. I became very good friends with many of my co-workers and learned a lot from them. Unfortunately I only photographed a handful of them, but have included those here.

KJBR also had an AM sister station, KBTM-AM 1230, that most times was automated, running national talk and news shows. Take a look at what high-tech automoation used to look like back then. When I worked several months filling in as news director while Christie Mathews was out on maternity leave I'd also anchor a daily 10 minutes cast on KBTM.

Dennis Rogers, a good program director who was willing to give me a chance doing CHR for the first time.
All jocks were required to aircheck every shift. Dennis would frequently listen and make suggestions.
Production Director and afternoon drive jock Steve Tyler. He had an incredible voice and was a good guy.

Every day I'd see morning show team Phil Jamison and Christie Mathews, two great, friendly radio people.
Christie was pregnant at that point and while she was out on maternity leave I filled in anchoring morning newscasts.
I'd known Kevin McMinn from when he worked with my roommate Tim at an easy listening station.

By the summer of '92 Zeke Terry was doing nights. I'd frequently come in early just to hang out with him before my shift.
Board operator Glen Stien running a St. Louis Cardinal game on KBTM. He later became a personality on Kiss-FM 101.9.
In this era of computerized automation, it's incredible to see what the AM station's equipment looked like.

KJBR's coverage map, with the powerful signal hitting parts of five states.

A small sticker we would put on people's shirts at fairs, parades or dances.
Shortly after the station was sold this was the first indication of big changes ahead.
