Being a big fan of rail travel, I was pleased
to see how heavily Europe uses trains. Here is London's Metropolitan
Railway Station.
|
While I liked London's subway system, finding
it convenient and easy to use, we did encounter several delays
and cancelled trains.
|
The busy, crowded, noisy streets of London
reminded me a lot of being in New York. We took regular buses
a few times, but found them confusing as hell.

Speaker's Corner in London's Hyde Park. Anyone
is welcome to speak and many, like this man, seem to work at
inflaming their crowds.
|
While others hold more scholarly discussions.
For more than a century Speaker's Corner has been a place to
debate practically any topic imaginable.
|
A very visible police presence kept the often-heated
debates from getting physical. Here Susan walks behind two of
London's officers.

We got up early to catch the changing of the
guard at Buckingham Palace only to be disappointed, finding
that it had been rained out.

Posing in front of Big Ben from inside a car
on the London Eye, a sort of ferris wheel-type device that provided
a good view of London.

Susan eats a bag of chips at this beautiful
train station in Brussels, Belgium while waiting to transfer
trains to get to Amsterdam.

An image from the train while passing through
a city somewhere between Brussels and Amsterdam.

The view of Amsterdam sticking my head out
the bedroom window at our bed and breakfast.
|
I was impressed that the bicycle is a leading
form of transportation there. Bikes were everywhere.

A woman rides through the narrow streets of
Amsterdam.

Even the mail carriers are on bicycles.

I saw several artists like this man painting
scenes on the streets.

Every day long lines wait to visit the Anne
Frank House where she and her family lived and were captured
by the Germans.
|
Of course Amsterdam is well known for its
coffee shops. Here's a rather unique one housed on a boat.
|
Even entire families get around by bike. It
was nice to see cars having to share the roads equally with
bikes and streetcars.
