Hibblen Radio - Click to return Home

I've been on the air in many different capacities since 1988. During the first five years I worked mostly as a DJ playing alternative rock, country and pop music. After an eye opening internship at C-SPAN in Washington, DC I made the transition to news, working as an anchor and reporter for several radio stations and networks around the country. I have also written for newspapers and wire services. After 12 years in Miami, in April I returned to my hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas where I work as a reporter and afternoon news anchor for NPR station KUAR-FM-89.1 For each listing below you can click on the logo to read a detailed description of experiences in each position, see photos and listen to audio samples.

Among the stories I covered were the 2000 presidential election dispute, the anthrax attack at a tabloid publisher and Florida's connection to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Interned five months in 1993 in Washington, DC, helping to produce the weekly public radio program "C-SPAN's Weekly Radio Journal," which was a look back at the week in politics based on the network's coverage. It proved to be an invaluable learning experience that redirected me toward news.

KJBR - Click to read more

Overnight DJ starting in October 1991 at this hard-edged pop station in the college town of Jonesboro, Arkansas. The powerful signal could be heard in parts of five states. But the first steps of deregulation led to a new owner, a watered-down format and gave me a preview of what was to come with radio consolidation.

Even though it was another small town station, K-105 was professionally run, carefully programmed and actively involved in its community. I was evening DJ for this soft rock station in Paragould, Arkansas, starting in October 1990. Volunteer host of a weekly alternative rock program from 1988 to 1995 on this powerful community radio station in Little Rock, Arkansas. I also served as a news volunteer, giving me my first news experience.

Pre-Radio - Click to read more
I developed an interest in radio before I even started elementary school. As I grew older, a love of music solidified my desire to be on the air. A high school radio class taught me enough to get my first job and begin getting some real experience. A couple of mentors were also extremely helpful in conveying how the crazy business of radio really works.
